La Vida guide How many hours should you rent a photo booth for?

The right number of hours depends less on the length of the party and more on when guests are free to play.

Wedding guests posing together in a photo booth

Start with the guest count, not the clock

A booth is only busy when guests are free to use it. During a ceremony, a seated dinner or the toasts, almost nobody leaves their chair, so paying for those hours rarely makes sense. The useful window is cocktail hour, the gap after dinner and the open dancing that follows.

Our packages come in two, three and four hour tiers, and each extra hour is $150. Rather than guessing high, work out which parts of your timeline are genuinely social and book around those.

Wedding receptions: three to four hours

Most receptions get the best out of a booth across three to four hours. Open it at cocktail hour so guests have something to do while you take portraits, pause nothing during dinner since the attendant simply waits, and let it run through the first stretch of dancing when groups are loosest.

The four-hour Beverly package at $850 is the comfortable choice for a larger wedding where cocktail hour and dancing are both long. For a tighter reception, three hours at $700 covers cocktails and the post-dinner rush without paying for the quiet middle.

Quinceañeras: three to four hours

A quince runs long, and the booth earns its keep after the formal moments. Guests arrive, the court is presented, the vals and surprise dance happen, dinner is served, and only then does the room loosen up. Three hours from the end of the formalities usually lands on the sweet spot.

If you want court photos and family portraits before the programme starts, four hours gives you that early window plus the late party. The Beverly Booth is the right fit here because the court and extended family need the room an 8 by 8 foot setup provides.

Birthdays and baptisms: two to three hours

A birthday party, a baptism lunch or a shower is shorter and more relaxed, and guests tend to circulate the whole time. Two hours on the Selfie Booth at $290 or the Beverly at $550 covers a party of this size well, with three hours a sensible upgrade if the guest list runs long.

For a milestone birthday, where the host wants prints as keepsakes, the Beverly makes more sense than the Selfie. The strip becomes something guests take home, which matters more at a 50th than at a casual afternoon gathering.

Corporate events: two to three hours

Holiday parties and team events usually have a defined social window, often the first two hours after people arrive. The booth is busiest early when colleagues are mingling and quieter once the programme or dinner begins. Two to three hours is normally enough.

For a launch or activation, think in terms of foot traffic rather than party length. Our Brand Activation package is three hours at $850 and can extend by the hour if the doors stay open longer.

Grand openings and pop-ups: by the hour

An opening has a flow of customers rather than a single crowd, so it pays to match the booth to the peak hours on your schedule, the ribbon cutting and the first busy afternoon, for example. We printed strips at grand openings for a San Fernando Valley coffee company in Chatsworth and Stevenson Ranch and the booth was most useful when the queue outside was longest.

Book the base tier that covers your peak and add hours if the event stretches. Extra hours are $150 each, so a late add-on is simple to price.

Idle hours and when to start

An idle hour is when the booth is set up but switched off, often because it has to be placed before the ceremony and cannot run during it. Setup and breakdown are included in every booking, and we arrive early enough to be ready before your guests do.

If your timeline has a long gap, tell us. We will plan the start time around the first social window instead of the moment guests walk in, so you are not paying for an empty booth.

  • Wedding reception: 3 to 4 hours, start at cocktail hour
  • Quinceañera: 3 to 4 hours, start after the formalities
  • Birthday or baptism: 2 to 3 hours
  • Corporate party: 2 to 3 hours, start when guests arrive
  • Grand opening: book around peak hours, extend by the hour

Questions, answered

Good to Know

Can I add an hour on the night if the party is still going?

Often, yes. If our attendant is free to stay, an extra hour is $150. Tell us in advance if you think this is likely so we can plan the evening.

Does the booth have to run continuously?

No. The hours you book are booth hours, and we can time them to start after a ceremony or dinner so the window lands where guests are free.

Is two hours too short for a wedding?

For a small or short reception it can work, but most couples find that two hours either misses cocktail hour or misses the dancing. Three is the more common choice.
