Outdoor photo booth Backyards, patios & parks

Backyards, patios, rooftops and parks. Here is how we set up outside so the prints look as good as they would in a ballroom.

Planning an outdoor booth

Los Angeles weather makes outdoor parties easy, but a photo booth outside has a few needs. The first is shade. Direct sun washes out faces and overheats the equipment, so we set up under a patio cover, a canopy or a shady tree, or we bring the booth out as the sun drops. The second is level ground: a patio, a deck or firm lawn is ideal, while a slope or soft grass makes the lighting and the backdrop frame unstable.

Power is the third. Both booths need a standard outlet within reach of an extension cord, and the Beverly Booth's studio lighting is what keeps evening photos bright once the sun is gone, so your guests look the same at nine as they did at six. Wind is the one thing we watch closely. Our backdrops are weighted, but on a gusty hillside we may suggest a wall or a hedge behind the booth instead.

For public parks and beaches the park usually requires a permit for equipment and vendors, and some do not allow power at all. Check with the city before you book, and if power is not available the Selfie Booth is the more practical choice. Tell us about the space when you reach out and we will plan the placement with you.

Questions, answered

Outdoor & backyard

Can the booth run in a backyard with no outlet nearby?

We need a standard outlet within reach of an extension cord. If your yard has none, a generator with a clean sine wave works, or we can place the booth just inside a patio door.

What happens if it rains or gets windy?

We will move the booth under cover or indoors with you on the day. Our backdrops are weighted, and in strong wind we can set up against a wall or hedge instead of a freestanding backdrop.

Do you set up in public parks?

Yes, where the park allows vendors and provides power. Most cities require a permit for equipment, so check with the park office before booking.

How much space does the photo booth need?

The Beverly Booth needs at least 8 x 8 feet and the Selfie Booth about 6 x 6 feet, plus room for guests to line up and look at their photos.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend at least four to six weeks ahead, and earlier for weekends, holidays and wedding and quinceañera season.

Can I customize the photo strip?

Yes. Every booking includes a custom template with your names, date and colours, and we can add logos and themed designs.

What is your deposit and cancellation policy?

A 50% deposit holds your date. Cancellations 30 or more days before the event receive a full refund; within 30 days the deposit can be applied to a future booking.
